It is my great honor to introduce to you, our Sherman Oaks Presbyterian Church family, our new youth director, Mr. Kyle Megginson!
Kyle was born in Newark, Delaware, was raised in a strong Christian home and was very active from an early age in youth ministry. Starting in 7th grade when he a core member of his church’s puppet ministry! After finishing high school, he became very active in his church’s youth ministry. There, he acted as volunteer youth leader and youth worship band director.
Through his time in college, Kyle was mentored by his church’s high school youth director. This relationship, amongst others, built in Kyle a very strong passion and desire in the ministry and discipleship of youth. It was here that Kyle began to connect with the importance of relationship with the students, and discovered his own innate ability of being relatable to youth.
Kyle graduated from Wilmington College in 2004 with a degree in liberal arts. About a year before his college graduation, Kyle had a growing desire to really get into the tougher issues in his Christian faith, and he really hungered for a deeper understanding of the scriptures. So when he graduated in 2004, Kyle set off for California and came to Fuller Theological Seminary.
During his time in graduate school, Kyle faced some personally challenging experiences that tested the core of his faith in Christ. His yearning to grab a stronger understanding of scriptures led him through some unexpected turns in his walk with the Lord. These experiences reset the foundations of Kyle’s faith in Christ, giving him a more grounded hold on the reality and truth in the person of Jesus and the teachings of scripture.
Kyle is very excited to work with the wonderful volunteer adult leaders that have already come forward to be a part of this new ministry! Kyle will be involved in leading weekly youth group meetings for both the junior and senior high school students, meeting regularly with adult leaders to prepare for each week’s lessons and activities, meeting regularly with students, working closely with the Christian Education committee, and meeting regularly with myself. Kyle will also have the opportunity to preach in our Sunday morning services as I have been extremely impressed with his heart for ministry and his knowledge of the scriptures.
Kyle enjoys a variety of sports, especially volleyball, where he can claim three Fuller Seminary league championships. He really loves the outdoors including snowboarding, surfing, and cliff diving. Kyle also has a great passion for music and song writing.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to have Kyle joining our staff! I know that once you meet him, you will be excited by his vision for ministry, passion for our youth, and love of Jesus Christ! I hope you will join me in warmly welcoming Kyle to our church!
With love in Christ,
Zachary Kintner,
your pastor at SOPC
