SOPC has a tradition of strong music. In the 50s and 60s, composer Jack Halloran directed the SOPC choir. In the 80s and 90s, Heavenbound Sound was the praise-choir-in-residence. Today, the Chancel Choir and the Spirit Ensemble provide vocal music for Sunday services, as well as presenting special concerts during the holiday seasons.

Interested in singing with the choir?
The Chancel Choir welcomes all who love to sing and who will be committed to attending Thursday rehearsals and Sunday worship. This is great opportunity to be a worship leader while singing a wide variety of musical styles. Besides singing Classical repertoire, Spirituals, Gospel music, you will learn basic elements of musicianship and vocal technique.

The Chancel Choir rehearses each Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00PM. The choir sings for the 10:00 a.m. worship service in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. The choir rehearses one hour prior to each service.
The theme for the music ministry this year is "break into joyous song and sing praises." I recently looked up the definition for the word break. Do you know what the dictionary said?

Here are two definitions:
1.To find the solution or key (to learn about living your life as a Christian as you worship and learn the song text in choir)
2.To make known (tell the Good News through music).

I ask you to discover how to deepen your spiritual journey as you learn to sing praises to God with others in the music ministry at Sherman Oaks Presbyterian Church. I ask you to join the Chancel Choir as we share God's word through music and song.

If you have any questions about the music ministry, please call me at (818) 788-3330. Come and "break into joyous song and sing praises" with us.
